Construction of wastewater treatment system for Sanctuary Ho Tram tourist area – Phase 1

The wastewater treatment system construction project at Sanctuary Ho Tram Tourist Area is divided 2 phases: phase 1 with 60 m3/day.night and phase 2 with 370 m3/day.night. In this process, NTS Engineering Co., Ltd implements phase 1. The wastewater treatment system applies AO technology combined with MBBR to treat domestic wastewater for the area. The project's goal is to ensure that effluent meets QCVN 14:2025/BTNMT, column A, contributing to environmental protection and improving the service quality of the tourist area.

Challenge
To implement the project, NTS encountered some challenges as follows:
- The construction schedule is tight; therefore, the implementation must be completed on time for handover.
- The construction process requires close and continuous coordination with other contractors such as construction contractors, mechanical and electrical (ME) contractors, ... to avoid unnecessary errors.
- The influent wastewater has the characteristics of domestic wastewater. However, the water source fluctuates by hour, day and season and depends on the number of tourists, holidays or weekends.
- Strict requirements on materials to ensure quality and construction progress.
Solution
In this 1 phase, the construction solution is carried out as follows:
- Construction of equipment and pipelines is only in phase 1, not installed in phase 2 space. The common pipelines between the two phases are installed with isolation valves to control each phase.
- Project implementation departments need to anticipate challenges in order to plan in sync with construction and handover progress, ensuring that the system does not delay the overall project's progress.
- Continuously coordinate with construction contractors and ME according to the plan of each stage, to minimize incidents or problems that arise.
- Check hourly and daily flow rates at peak times to develop appropriate operating guidelines, avoiding shock loading that kills microorganisms when the equalization tank does not meet the flow rate.
- Strictly comply with the approved documents by the Investor before construction and installation.

Results
The wastewater treatment system phase 1 has been constructed and operated stably, the influent wastewater meets QCVN 14:2025/BTNMT, column A. The construction process ensures the deadline and does not affect the overall operation of the project, creating a solid foundation for the implementation of phase 2.
The table below summarizes several effluent quality parameters after inspection and renovation:
| Items | Value | Unit |
Capacit | 60 | m3/day.night |
BOD Removal Efficiency | < 25 | mg/L |
COD Removal Efficiency | < 50 | mg/L |
Total Coliform | < 3000 | MPN/100ml |
